My Life As A Unicorn

Here's an updated picture of my quad suit, Cassimir, out at The Sherwood Forest Renaissance Festival. C: Posing with him is out friend Alphonse Fox. He showed us around this newer festival. We owe him many, many thanks!

This is the second time I've taken the quad out, and I absolutely love working in it! Just watching everyone's face light up when a "real" Unicorn comes wandering up is worth all the sweat and neck cramps. Haha.

I can spend about 6-7 hours in it at a time before needing to change back into normal clothes. I wear Under Armor shorts and tee while in the suit, mainly to control the sweat from the Texas heat we have year 'round. There's no fan in the head, so I rely on the breezes that come through the veil where I see.

Staying in the lowered position isn't hard on my back at all, it's mainly the head weight that makes things interesting. The stilts are double jointed, so I move slowly, especially over awkward terrain. I can bounce, trot, paw, and stomp, but I cannot run, kick both back legs, or jump without fear of snapping a joint and ending up on my snout.

I do not speak when I'm Cassimir, to me, it ruins the illusion. I do snort, shake my head yes or no, and wag my tail. Since he was made to be extremely realistic, I like to keep character that way. Of course, I speak to adults who ask me questions about the suit or how I'm doing in it, but the kids never hear my voice, and it's so much more magical for them. C:

It's hard to pick places that are suitable for Cassi, if there are a lot of people, we tend to stay clear. People bumping, and grabbing on him are no nos, and since it's difficult to see, wide open spaces are a plus. I do plan on heading to all the Renaissance Festivals I can, and possibly a couple of Anime conventions just to get the suit seen, and Beast Cub's name out to more people.
